High Density Polyethylene Plastic Bags
HDPE plastic stands for High Density Polyethylene and is a low cost thermoplastic polymer with a linear structure and no or low branching. It is manufactured at low temperatures from 70ºC-300°C and pressures (10-80 bar) from the catalytic cracking of crude oil into gasoline or modified natural gas (e.g. ethane, methane or propane blends).
There are seven general-purpose plastic categories, each consisting of a different combination of resins. These different classifications can be easily identified on plastic containers by the triangular arrows in the middle number. HDPE is classified as a #2 plastic and is produced primarily using two different technologies.
● Slurry polymerization - where the monomer is polymerized in the form of dispersed monomer pellets
● Gas phase polymerization - polymerization of monomers in the form of vaporized monomers, fluidized catalysts and polymer pellets in a fluidized bed reactor
● Cost-effective, lightweight, transparent and extremely durable
● Resistant to alcohols, dilute acids, bases, oils and solvents (e.g. water)
● Highly flexible, making it malleable and easy to mold into various shapes and sizes
● Industrial grade, FDA, Nsf and USDA approved
● Transparent, economical, light weight, very strong
● Resistant to various elements - HDPE is resistant to solvents such as water. It is also resistant to alcohol, diluted alkalis, acids and grease. The durable plastic is also resistant to corrosion, making it resistant to mold, decay and mildew. (However, it is not effective against hydrocarbons such as aromatics, aliphatic and halogenated hydrocarbons).
● Highly flexible - HDPE materials are easy to stretch and mold. Plastics are commonly molded into a variety of shapes in a variety of applications, such as detergent bottles, food storage containers, milk jugs, pipes, etc.
● Industrial grade, NSF, FDA and USDA approvals - allows safe contact with food
● Recyclable - Both rigid (e.g., containers) and flexible (e.g., bags), this plastic category can be recycled. These recycled plastics are often found in the assembly of toy products.
HDPE plastic bags are used in a variety of industries. Its extremely high impact strength helps protect the internal components of the product.
